Commander JFC Brunssum Visits Finland

Coming from Sweden, Commander JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, on 04 September 2024 paid a visit to neighbouring Finland. In Helsinki, he first met with the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola. “We are very happy to welcome General Miglietta to Finland! I look forward to our discussions on topics such as hybrid threats and our readiness to respond jointly to diverse challenges. During the visit, we will also present the local defence concept and the cooperation between Finnish authorities to our guests," General Jaakkola said.

With Finland at our side, the Alliance is much better positioned to deter any possible aggression towards our territory in the Baltic Sea Region.

Commander JFC Brunssum then visited Finnish troops during a local defence exercise to Espoo in the south of the country, where he also met with Finnish reservists and conscripts. “I am deeply impressed by the professionalism of the Finnish Armed Forces. They truly provide a tangible increase of NATO’s defence capabilities in the Baltic Sea Region. With Finland at our side, the Alliance is much better positioned to deter any possible aggression towards our territory in the Baltic Sea Region,” General Miglietta said.

Summarising the impressions he gained from his visits to both Sweden and Finland, General Miglietta also underlined that Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to the Alliance is an important step toward guaranteeing growth and stability within a challenging security environment in the Baltic Sea Region. Their membership makes NATO stronger, the two countries safer, and all of us more secure.
