Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Monday, 19th February 2024, Lieutenant General André Bodemann, Commander German Homeland Defence Command, paid a visit to Headquarters Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS).
I particularly thank the German Homeland Defence Command for facilitating Germany’s role as a hub for movements of NATO troops in Central Europe
Commander JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, warmly welcomed Lt Gen Bodemann at the HQ, and, together with his senior staff, provided a series of briefings on the role and responsibilities of HQ JFC Brunssum, particular in light of the ongoing Russian aggression towards Ukraine.
General Miglietta underlined the contribution of Germany to the defence of the Alliance, saying, “I particularly thank the German Homeland Defence Command for facilitating Germany’s role as a hub for movements of NATO troops in Central Europe. In these days, during our Deployment Exercise BRILLIANT JUMP 24 at the beginning of the overarching STEADFAST DEFENDER Exercise, this role has again proven to be of imminent importance for the success of a rapid and seamless movement of large troop contingents towards NATO’s eastern flank.”
Lt Gen Bodemann also took the opportunity to address the German delegation at JFCBS and to brief them on the tasks of the German Homeland Defence Command, which had been established in its present form in September 2022. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, it became evident that NATO again had to focus on collective defence in Europe. As a reaction to this new threat to the Alliance, one consequence for the German Armed Forces was the establishment of the Homeland Defence Command.
