Brunssum, The Netherlands –To strengthen the bonds between the Netherlands and NATO, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Hanke Bruins Slot, visited Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) on June 19, 2024. She was hosted and welcomed by General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, the Commander of JFCBS.
In these turbulent times, in which Russia started a large-scale invasion on the European continent, NATO is crucial for our security, freedom and values. The Joint Force Command Brunssum plays an important role in the coordination of NATO troops on the eastern flank – and thereby for the security of the Netherlands and its allies.
During her visit, Minister Bruins Slot was thoroughly briefed on the latest developments at Brunssum headquarters, including key updates on NATO's deter and defence strategy. Senior staff provided detailed insights into the recently completed STEADFAST DEFENDER 24 exercise series, underscoring the alliance's readiness and resilience. The integration of Sweden and Finland into NATO's Joint Operations Area, an important expansion of the alliance, was also a central topic of discussion.

Minister Bruins Slot, who served in the Royal Netherlands Army from 2007 to 2010 and led an artillery unit in Afghanistan, also took time to engage with Dutch soldiers at Brunssum. She shared experiences and discussed the vital role they play in NATO missions, reinforcing the importance of their service and dedication.
