Brunssum, The Netherlands – Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Italian Chief of Defence and designated Chair of the NATO Military Committee, visited JFC Brunssum, Wednesday 10 April 2024.
The ability to react rapidly, and in force, are key to the defence of NATO territory
Commander JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, welcomed the Admiral to the headquarters.
“It is my pleasure to welcome Admiral Cavo Dragone to HQ JFCBS. NATO’s strength and unity are key to deterring our adversaries. The ability to react rapidly, and in force, are key to the defence of NATO territory.” said General Miglietta. “Both the political and military aspects of the Alliance are crucial to achieving this.”

The visit allowed Admiral Cavo Dragone to meet HQ JFCBS’ senior leadership before he assumes the Chairperson role. It also presented the opportunity for a programme of briefs and discussions to take place covering the roles and responsibilities of JFCBS, as one of NATOs operational HQs, in ensuring the readiness of NATO troops and regional plans in the event of crisis.

“This year is the 75th Anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic treaty and the start of our Alliance. Despite the global changes during this period, NATO is stronger, more united and ready to defend Alliance territory against any potential aggressor.” Admiral Cavo Dragone said “JFCBS is at the forefront of this, protecting the Eastern Flank of NATO and ensuring that NATO forces are ready and able to react to any event.”

The NATO Military committee is the senior military authority within the alliance. It provides the link between the political decision-making process and the military structure of NATO. The chair of the Military Committee represents the consensus-based views of all the NATO Chiefs of Defence as the principal military advisor to the Secretary General, the North Atlantic Council and other senior NATO bodies.
