Lieutenant General Ian Cave, United Kingdom’s (UK) Military Representative to NATO, was welcomed to HQ Joint Force Command Brunssum (HQ JFCBS), Tuesday 30th April 2024, by General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander HQ JFCBS.
"The importance of close ties between the NATO nations is paramount,” said General Miglietta in his welcome address. “NATO is strong, not just because of its military forces, but because of the unity between the 32 nations that make up the Alliance, and their shared efforts towards the goal of European peace and security.”

The day’s programme of briefs was firmly focused on NATO, and UK’s many contributions to the Alliance. Topics included NATO’s regional plans, enhanced Vigilance Activities, Sweden’s accession to NATO, and the transition of NATO Response Force (NRF) to the Allied Response Force (ARF) later this year.
NATO is strong, not just because of its military forces, but because of the unity between the 32 nations that make up the Alliance, and their shared efforts towards the goal of European peace and security.
NATO’s regional plans are the result of NATO’s adaptation to modern global security challenges, which resulted in the New Force Model. These adaptations ensure that NATO, has more troops at high readiness across the Alliance for rapid, effective reaction to any event. They also ensure that NATO, as an organisation, is able to support these troops.
“The ever changing security threats faced by NATO, across all domains, has meant that we were required to adapt,” said Lt Gen Cave. “This process has taken time, but with the transition to the Allied Reaction Force we have ensured that NATO is ready to respond, in force, to any crisis.”
