NATO Field School Visits JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands - On Tuesday 18 June, attendees of the NATO Field School and Simulation Program were hosted by Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (HQ JFCBS).

On completion of a warm welcome by Ms. Nona Koch students from Canada, France, Norway, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States were familiarised with tasks of an operational NATO command and its role in European security.
They received a comprehensive lecture of JFCBS’ operational structure, function and contribution to maintaining international security and a lecture on the Airborne Warning & Control System (AWACS) fleet by subject matter experts. Following this Colonel Paul Williams (Canada), Captain-Navy Mark Hammond (Great Britain) and Ms. Eliza Elerte (Latvia), JFCBS Deputy Political Advisor, formed a panel to answer visitors’ questions.

The delegation was then invited to visit the Joint All Domain Operations Centre (JADOC), the operational nerve centre of the headquarters, for a sense of how JFCBS runs its daily business.

The NATO Field School and Simulation Program is an intensive academic program, open to university students across all NATO member states. This program provides participants with an opportunity to observe professionals and experts in their working environment, to understand the decision-making processes in the political, diplomatic and military fields and to gain an experience in political strategy, foreign policy formation, strategic communication and information security.

The NATO Field School aims to prepare students for employment in foreign affairs, defence policy and various national and international security sectors, as well as international Non-Governmental Organisations.
