– Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum Commander, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, visited the headquarters of both JFC Norfolk, and Allied Command Transformation (ACT), as his first stops on a 5-day tour of the United States’ National Capital Region (NCR), 15th April, 2024.
Throughout the day, General Miglietta met with Commander JFC Norfolk, Vice Admiral Douglas Perry, and Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Philippe Lavigne. Discussion topics included NATO’s evolving role, the current global security landscape, integration of new NATO Allies Finland and Sweden, emerging technological threats, and burden sharing for Trans-Atlantic operations.

“While we are in constant contact through day-to-day business, it is a rare special occasion to meet with Vice Admiral Perry and General Levigne face to face. We have much to discuss,” said General Miglietta. “Most importantly, I’m here to talk about the ways JFC Brunssum and JFC Norfolk can align our strategic planning in order to optimise NATO’s commitment to Trans-Atlantic security. Another top priority is to discuss how JFC Brunssum and ACT can adapt our exercises to address emerging threats.”
Joint Force Command Norfolk is one of NATO’s three operational commands, and the only one located in North America. It’s mission focuses on multi-domain protection of the Trans-Atlantic link and the Arctic.

Allied Command Transformation is NATO’s Strategic Warfare Development Command. Its mission is to contribute to preserving the peace, security and territorial integrity of Alliance member states by leading the strategic warfare development of military structures, forces, capabilities and doctrines.
While General Miglietta is in the United States, he is also scheduled to visit the Pentagon and the U.S. Army War College.
