Welcomed by the Commander of JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Ambassador von Geyr's visit held great importance in fostering dialogue and cooperation between German military forces and NATO.
“Dr. von Geyr's visit emphasises Germany’s unwavering commitment to NATO's collective defence,” General Miglietta said of the visit. “It provides an invaluable opportunity to align our combined operational capabilities in the face of a rapidly evolving security landscape across Europe.”
Reflecting on his extensive diplomatic career, including notable roles such as Vice President of the Federal Intelligence Service and Germany's Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dr. von Geyr was keenly interested in the implementation of JFC Brunssum’s new regional plan and in the future Joint Operational Areas for both JFC Brunssum and Norfolk.
“The coordinated efforts towards implementing the regional plans reflect NATO's adaptability and readiness to confront Europe’s developing security challenges,” von Geyr said. “It’s very impressive to see the results of such careful and highly professional coordination between Germany and so many Allied nations.”
Later discussions delved into the evaluation of forces, their capabilities, and the interaction with component commands such as Allied Air Command and Allied Land Command, highlighting the synergy between military domains within NATO's operational framework.
Amidst ongoing exercise activities, particularly the Steadfast Defender 2024 cluster, Ambassador von Geyr took note of the Alliance's readiness and interoperability. “The ongoing exercises demonstrate NATO's resolve to adapt and continuously improve interoperability between national forces, in all domains,” he said. “It is imperative that we sustain this momentum to ensure our collective defence.”
Of particular interest for Ambassador von Geyr was the German-led exercise Grand Quadriga, which marks not only the culmination of the Steadfast Defender 2024 cluster but also heralds the conclusion of the NRF programme under Brunssum's leadership, paving the way for the establishment of the new Allied Reaction Force (ARF).
“This visit epitomises the Alliance's commitment to strategic dialogue and operational cooperation,” said General Miglietta. “This was an excellent opportunity to highlight our readiness to confront today’s security challenges as one unified and resolute NATO.”
