HQ Multinational Division Centre: Strengthening NATO’s Tactical Capabilities For Future Challenges

BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – On February 10th, the Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C) Full Operational Capability Ceremony took place in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. NATO Deputy Secretary General, Radmila Shekerinska, Ministries of Defence of Hungary and Slovakia, Croatia State of Secretary, and other high military, civilian and NATO representatives attended the Ceremony. Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, attended the Ceremony on behalf of Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Christopher G. Cavoli.

Multinational Division-Centre now stands ready to defend every inch of NATO territory, coordinate operations across multiple domains and respond to any threat

Since its activation on May 3, 2022, HQ MND-C has played a crucial role in integrating NATO-assigned forces and capabilities into a higher tactical unit. This command element is designed to lead Multinational forces across the full spectrum of land operations, ensuring both Allied and regional security.

Speaking in the ceremony, the Deputy Secretary General congratulated Hungary, Croatia and Slovakia on this significant achievement and stressed that the presence of the Headquarters sends a clear and strong signal that NATO’s deterrence and defence posture is strong and the Alliance stands united.

Over the past years, HQ MND-C has reached several significant milestones, marking its progress in strengthening NATO’s operational effectiveness. However, new challenges now lie ahead. In the coming period, the primary focus will be on refining and optimizing the Headquarters’ structures and systems. This process will involve careful adaptation and rigorous testing to enhance operational efficiency.

A key priority will be the full integration of the Hungarian and Slovakian NATO Multinational Battle Groups, which will soon be subordinated to HQ MND-C. Their seamless incorporation into the command structure is essential for maintaining a strong and unified defence posture.

Additionally, continuous training will be vital to sustain and further develop the Division’s newly acquired capabilities. By ensuring that its forces remain fully prepared for peacetime, crisis and wartime missions and operations, HQ MND-C reaffirms its commitment to supporting NATO’s strategic objectives and safeguarding regional stability.

General Miglietta, emphasized the significance of this progress, stating: "Multinational Division-Centre now stands ready to defend every inch of NATO territory, coordinate operations across multiple domains and respond to any threat. Their operational capability enhances NATO's deterrence posture and demonstrates our collective resolve. The Full Operational Capability is not an end state - it is a foundation upon which we will continue to build, adapt, and enhance our capabilities to meet future challenges."

As NATO continues to adapt to an evolving security environment, HQ MND-C will play a vital role in ensuring coherent command and control of forces, reinforcing deterrence, and upholding the Alliance’s commitment to collective defence.
