Hungarian War College Visits JFC Brunssum

BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – On 10th April, Headquarters Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) received the visit of some 20 students and staff from the Hungarian War College, headed by the Staff Director, Colonel László Benda, and accompanied by the Deputy Staff Director of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ General Staff (DCOS), Brigadier General János Somogyi.

The curriculum prepares selected military leaders (both Hungarian and foreign) for the responsibilities of strategic leadership and educates them on the development and employment of military skills at the highest levels

On behalf of the Commander JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, the delegation was warmly welcomed by the JFCBS Deputy Chief of Staff Plans, Major General Mark Pullan. During their stay, the visitors received a series of briefings covering the tasks and responsibilities of the HQ and discussed the ongoing planning activities and operations as well as the current situation at NATO’s Northern and Eastern Flank in the light of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. They also visited the operational heart of the HQ, the 'Joint All-Domain Operations Centre' (JADOC), where 24/7 on 365 days of the year all relevant information worldwide are tracked to provide the leadership of JFC Brunssum with up to date situational awareness.

The Hungarian Senior Military Leader Postgraduate University Level Programme, as the highest National Military Education, offers a 10-month residential programme. The curriculum prepares selected military leaders (both Hungarian and foreign) for the responsibilities of strategic leadership and educates them on the development and employment of military skills at the highest levels.

This visit was part of a tour the College conducted regularly prior to the COVID pandemic, and has now resumed with the present course with visits to the EU and different NATO Headquarters in Central Europe. Prior to this trip, the group has already visited NATO Commands in southern Europe and Hungarian troops deployed to the Kosovo Force (KFOR).

Upon completion of this programme, the students are considered ready to hold senior positions in the Hungarian Defence Force and NATO and advance to the rank of colonel.
