Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Monday, 2nd June 2025, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander of Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), addressed all JFCBS staff members during a significant event marking a period of profound transformation and achievement.
This book stands as a permanent record of your efforts, your dedication, and your vision over the past three years
The gathering was a momentous occasion, with all staff present or attending in live stream, reflecting the formality and significance of the day. In his last staff address prior to his departure from JFCBS, General Miglietta spoke with great pride and vision, emphasizing the collective efforts and remarkable resilience shown by the JFCBS community over the past three years.
"When twelve nations came together in 1949 to sign the North Atlantic Treaty, they did so not with aggression in mind, but with peace as their purpose," General Miglietta stated. "They knew that peace could only last if it was backed by strength. That deterrence was not provocation, but protection. That stability opens the door to prosperity."
He further remarked, “The alliance has grown from twelve members to thirty two. Together, we have ensured peace and freedom for over one billion people. The core mission of NATO remains as clear today as it was in 1950: to deter, and if necessary, to defend.”
The event also saw the introduction of the much-anticipated JFCBS book, "Shaping the Change. 3 Years of Deep Transformation." This publication encapsulates the extensive developments and strategic shifts that have taken place within the command over the past three years. It serves as a tribute to the dynamic evolution of JFCBS and its pivotal role in maintaining global security.
"This book stands as a permanent record of your efforts, your dedication, and your vision over the past three years," General Miglietta stated. "It is a testament to a team that answered the call of duty at a time of unprecedented uncertainty. It captures a unique and decisive era in NATO history, an era that all of JFCBS helped shape."

Following the address and the introduction of the book, the morning proceeded with an awards ceremony that recognized the outstanding achievements and contributions of various staff members.
General Miglietta, on behalf of the Italian Chief of Defence General Luciano Portolano, proudly presented 4 Italian “Decorazione d’Onore Interforze” medals for their exemplary leadership and unparalleled support to JFCBS. He also presented 3 SACEUR recognition awards for exceptional service and contributions to NATO, and 11 Commander’s Commendations for outstanding achievements. The awards celebrated not only the accomplishments of individuals but also the collaborative spirit that defines JFCBS.
"This team turned JFCBS into what is today: a fully operational, warfighting headquarters, ready to lead NATO forces in high-intensity, multi-domain operations at any time," General Miglietta stated.
This ceremony highlighted the exceptional dedication and service exhibited by JFC Brunssum personnel, reinforcing the values of integrity, excellence, and unity within the command.
General Miglietta thanked everyone for attending. "It has been my honour to serve alongside you. Thank you for standing strong in the face of uncertainty and for ensuring JFC Brunssum is ready not just for today’s fight, but for whatever challenges the future may bring."
In conclusion, the events of 2nd June 2025, highlighted by General Miglietta’s inspiring words and the unveiling of "Shaping the Change," marked a significant milestone for JFCBS. It was a day of reflection, celebration of awards, and a reaffirmation of commitment to future successes and enduring peace.
