BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – On January 30th, Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum had the pleasure of hosting 45 Cadets from the Italian Military College “Nunziatella,” accompanied by their Commander, members of the School Staff, and a group of former students.
The exceptional learning experience provided by Nunziatella, paired with a lifelong dedication to personal and professional growth, will always yield great achievements
This visit was part of the annual cultural and educational activities organised by the school, aimed at enhancing the students' understanding of International Institutions and military matters. Before arriving at Brunssum’s Headquarters, the students had toured key European Institutions in Brussels.
The Commander of JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, warmly welcomed the Cadets, sharing his personal connection to the institution. "My military journey began within the arms of Nunziatella," he said, recalling his formative years from 1977 to 1980.
At JFC Brunssum, the Cadets had the opportunity to visit one of the NATO military strategic hubs of collective security. They were introduced to NATO’s organisational structure and the specific role of an Operational Headquarters located in the Netherlands. The delegation received insights into the Command’s mission, which includes planning and executing joint operations across all domains within its Joint Operational Area.
During his address, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta emphasized the importance of combining high-quality education with steadfast commitment. He stated: "The exceptional learning experience provided by Nunziatella, paired with a lifelong dedication to personal and professional growth, will always yield great achievements."
Commander JFC Brunssum continued by addressing the Cadets directly: "The education you are receiving will enable you to become responsible leaders and conscientious citizens, ready to contribute to the advancement of society. We are living in a delicate historical moment, marked by global challenges that demand cohesion, dedication, and long-term vision. NATO, and particularly the Operational Command at Brunssum, plays a crucial role in safeguarding peace, deterring aggression, and, if necessary, actively defending the over one billion citizens of member countries. As future leaders, whether in civilian or military spheres, it is essential for you to understand the complexity of these responsibilities, no matter which path you choose."
General Miglietta’s words offered the students a clear vision of the significance of their educational journey, inspiring them to pursue their personal and professional development with determination.
The Royal Military Academy in Naples, founded in 1787 by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, is the oldest military educational institution in Italy and one of the oldest in the world still in operation today. Following a 1908 reform, the institution assumed its current structure as the “Nunziatella,” offering two academic tracks over three years: classical studies and technical-scientific studies. The curriculum includes high school-level academics alongside rigorous physical and athletic training.
Nunziatella continues to be a vanguard of excellence, shaping future leaders who contribute to society in both military and civilian capacities while upholding the institution's storied legacy.
