BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – General Christopher Donahue, Commander of NATO’s Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) and U.S. Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF), made his first official visit to Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) on 18 March 2025. The visit underscored LANDCOM’s enduring commitment to enhancing cooperation with JFCBS and strengthening NATO’s collective land defence posture.
Landcom’s relationship with JFC Brunssum is critical to ensuring the collective security of NATO states
General Donahue assumed command of LANDCOM in December 2024, and this visit marked a significant step in fostering operational synergy between the two major NATO commands. Given JFCBS’s strategic role in overseeing NATO’s northern and eastern flank, close coordination with LANDCOM remains a key pillar of the Alliance’s deterrence and defence strategy.
“It is critical that we maintain close ties with our colleagues at LANDCOM,” stated General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, JFCBS Commander. “Today’s visit with General Donahue is a great opportunity to discuss our common issues and interests, and to plan our way forward as cooperative commands.”
Upon arrival, General Miglietta and senior JFCBS staff hosted General Donahue before jointly participating in a comprehensive Morning Update Brief presented by JFCBS staff. The briefing provided an operational overview of the command's current initiatives, ongoing deterrence efforts, and key challenges in the region.

Following the briefing, General Donahue joined General Miglietta for an in-depth office call, where discussions focused on NATO’s evolving land defence posture, interoperability between LANDCOM and JFCBS, and upcoming joint training and exercises designed to enhance NATO’s rapid response capabilities.
The visit concluded with a senior leader round-table discussion, allowing key JFCBS personnel to engage directly with General Donahue on strategic priorities and future cooperation avenues.
“Landcom’s relationship with JFC Brunssum is critical to ensuring the collective security of NATO states, said General Donahue. “Our ability to deter and defeat any threat starts in Peacetime Vigilance.”
