BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) welcomed 52 students of the UK’s Joint Services Command and Staff College, in a delegation led by Major General Peter Rowell, as part of the curriculum of the Higher Command and Staff Course (HCSC).
I find it immensely encouraging that the UK, together with many other Alliance Nations, considers it beneficial for their senior military leaders to explore NATO’s operational level of command here at Brunssum
The HCSC is a comprehensive 16-week postgraduate staff course designed for senior Defence and Security leaders, primarily from the British Armed Forces. Additionally, personnel also attended from allied nations such as: Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Ukraine that contributes to the HCSC diverse learning environment.
The visit to JFCBS was an integral component of the course, focusing on familiarisation with NATO and other international organisations. It prepares these leaders, at the rank of Colonel/Brigadier and equivalent, for high-level positions in operational command and control.
Major General Mark Pullan, Deputy Chief of Staff Plans, extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander of JFCBS.

"I was delighted to host students of the UK Higher Command and Staff Course at Joint Forces Command Brunssum. I find it immensely encouraging that the UK, together with many other Alliance Nations, considers it beneficial for their senior military leaders to explore NATO’s operational level of command here at Brunssum.”

During their visit, the delegation engaged in a series of comprehensive briefings designed to deepen their understanding of the political environment influencing JFCBS operations, regional security and strategic planning, as well as the conduct of activities across the Joint Operating Area. A critical focus was placed on "how NATO fights," providing crucial exposure for the students as part of their curriculum.

This visit highlights the significance of international collaboration and knowledge exchange in preparing military leaders to navigate complex global security landscapes effectively.
