Visit Of The Polish War Studies University to JFCBS

BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – On 17th March, Joint Force Command Brunssum hosted the visit of the Polish War Studies University. On behalf of the Commander JFCBS, Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, the group of some 40 officers in the rank of Colonel from all services of the Polish Armed Forces was welcomed to the Headquarters by the JFCBS Deputy Chief of Staff Support, Major General Stefan Fix from the German Army.

For your future positions, both in national and NATO responsibilities, an in-depth knowledge of the functioning of the NATO command structures is indispensable

The Polish War Studies University is an institution of higher education for the Polish Armed Forces, The visitors are participants in the Defence Policy Postgraduate Studies (DPPS), a one-year course preparing officers for positions of Generals and Admirals in the Polish Armed Forces.

The delegation, led by the University’s Vice-Rector for Military Affairs, Colonel Dariusz Majchrzak PhD, and supported by the Senior Mentor, retired Major General Marek Mecherzynski, were familiarised with the tasks and responsibilities of an operational NATO command and the challenges posted by a rapidly changing security environment particularly in the light of the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine

Maj Gen Fix noted in his presentation: “For your future positions, both in national and NATO responsibilities, an in-depth knowledge of the functioning of the NATO command structures is indispensable. Take this opportunity of your visit to our command to deep dive into the decision making process of an operational NATO Headquarters.”

The study tour started at NATO’s Multinational Corps North-East in Szczecin, and will be continued with visits to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons and the NATO HQ in Brussels. Thereby, the tactical, operational, strategic and political levels of the Alliance are covered in order to provide the students with the best possible understanding of the decision making processes in NATO at the various levels. That shall also better prepare them to assume higher positions in the NATO hierarchy.
