JFCBS Covid-19 Staff update 01 May 2020

Brunssum, the Netherlands, Friday 01 May 2020

NATO continues to support its members and partner nations in fighting the Corona crisis with deliveries of much needed medical equipment. For that purpose, the NATO Support Procurement Agency (NSPA) draws on resources like the Strategic Airlift International Solution (SALIS), operating Antonov AN-124, AN-225, AN-22 and Ilyushin L-76 aircraft mostly out of Leipzig/Halle airport, Germany, and the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) and its operational arm, the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), operating three Boeing C-17 Globemaster aircraft stationed at Pápa Airbase, Hungary.

Throughout recent weeks, numerous requests from NATO nations have been met and tons of medical supplies including masks, face shields, protective goggles, infrared thermometers, gloves, protective eyewear, sanitizers and disinfectants, aspirators and other equipment have been transported. Likewise, NATO and partner nations continue to support each other on a bilateral base. These efforts will continue on a high level in the weeks to come, demonstrating a strong strength of unity in the Alliance.

However, despite the concerns over the pandemic, our forces are resilient and continue to carry out NATO missions across all domains, on land, in the air and at sea on a daily basis. NATO will not sacrifice deterrence in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Due to a public holiday in The Netherlands on Tuesday, 05 May, and a bridging day at Headquarters JFC Brunssum on Monday, 04 May, there will be no COVID-19 updates on our website for both Monday and Tuesday. The next update will be published on Wednesday, 06 May. Keep observing the hygiene rules. Have a nice long weekend and stay safe!
